Emily Peters is from Live Love Animal Rescue, a group whose mission is to save homeless animals by providing them a lifelong commitment to their well-being. She spent time on the podcast talking about what adoptions have been like for shelters during COVID, why campaigns for a single dog can be so expensive, and the courage over comfort motto.

Abe the Freeway Stray
On 7/1/2015 a call for action was posted o Facebook by Shannon Nibarger Jordan regarding an injured dog in between the 710N and 405N freeways. I {Emily} immediately drove out to the area and after about 20 minutes of driving around with no luck, I spotted Abe.
He was laying in the middle of a filthy and dangerous area between the on-ramps. He was frightened by me at first but couldn’t resist the canned food and water. He was severely emaciated, dehydrated, and infested with parasites. We estimate he was 7-yrs old. His right front limb was being favored and although he did put some weight on it, the limb is swollen and needed vet attention.
The good news is that he was friendly, neutered, and very grateful to be safe! Abe lived out his days with Emily and her family as a Forever Foster due to medical and behavioral needs that were best managed in rescue. He became a Live Love Angel in December of 2019.
Magnus
Magnus was rescued from Long Beach Animal Care Services by Live Love in March of 2019. Emily had been watching him for nearly 6 months, networking him for adoption, and knowing that he would find a family- he is a stunning dog!
Well, that family never came for him, so Emily and her team came to his rescue. He was deteriorating behaviorally and medically in the kennel and benefitted greatly from coming into the rescue family with Emily at Live Love HQ.
Magnus went to one adoption event and then came home only to be unable to use his back legs. Frantic for answers, the Live Love team ran every test possible and found no answers to Magnus’ ailments. Fearing the worst, Emily promised him that if he could pull through he would live out his life with her family forever.
He eventually recovered and still need supportive care through medication and water therapy. Magnus is a cherished member of Emily’s pack and an amazing Forever Foster who helps socialize new dogs that they rescue!
Pepper
Pepper had been adopted and returned to Long Beach Animal Care Services three times over the years.
When Live Love rescued her in the summer of 2018, she was suffering from several terrible medical conditions, including mammary masses, Mersa, and severe arthritis. Pepper made a full recovery in foster care with Live Love and eventually was voted into their Forever Foster program after awaiting a home of her own for over a year in rescue.
Pepper lives out her days with her adoring Forever Foster dad, Elliot, and is a neighborhood favorite with all the kids!
