There’s so much hype around a puppy and -don’t get us wrong- we LOVE puppies, but there is something to be said for our silver-haired seniors. They have an almost regal attitude and rightfully so.
As our beloved dogs enter their golden years, it’s our mission to help them age with dignity and grace. There are a few things that have helped.
Quality Food
Making sure they eats a good brand of food. This is so important as dogs get older and you will really be able to see a change in them if they are eating healthy foods.
It’s important to consider their life stage so they are receiving the right nutrients for them. This may also mean adjusting diet depending on their breed or size.
Age Appropriate Exercise
Giving them the right amount of exercise to give them what they need but not let them overdo it. When they were puppies, our dogs could run for hours uninterrupted. Today, they still enjoy playing outdoors, but they gets winded a little easier and may have past injuries to keep in mind.
Supplements
Giving your dog the right supplements makes a big difference in their health as well. We make sure they get glucosamine, collagen, and daily vitamins. It’s all about keeping them as healthy as possible based off what their veterinarian has recommended.
Attention
Don’t forget to supply their daily dose of attention too. Even though they are getting older and slowing down doesn’t mean that they’re just a lower maintenance type of dog that doesn’t require attention. They are still as intelligent as ever, and it’s our duty to be sure they are mentally stimulated to keep their mind fighting fit.
Enjoy Every Day
The most important tip is to cherish every single second you have with them. After knowing a dog for years, you become partners in life. You’ll know each other in a way like no one else and it’s a very special honor to be their human.
Give some seniors a little extra love here.
