Politicians are best known for how they lead people and what laws to carry out, but rarely do you get to see them sit back and relax with their pets. It may come as a surprise that these politicians also enjoy playing fetch and cuddle time with their animals.
Queen Elizabeth II is not only the queen of the United Kingdom, but also of Canada, Australia, and New Zealand since February 6, 1952. If anyone knows the royal family, they know the queen is a huge dog lover. What’s her dog of choice? The majestic Pembroke Welsh Corgi. Since she’s been in reign over the past 65 years, Queen Elizabeth has homed over 30 Corgis! That is a true dog lover.
Staying in the United Kingdom, we meet David Cameron, who was the Prime Minister up until 2016. He was famously known for Larry the Cat. Although Larry was not officially his, their bond was undeniable. Larry the Cat, also known as the “Chief Mouser,” was adopted into the headquarters of the Government of the United Kingdom. Cameron’s original love stood with pups of the labrador decent, but after meeting Larry, this dog person became a fur-ever four-legged lover of all kinds.
Since the Queen reigns over Canada, let’s see what pet the Canadian Prime Minister Justin Truedeau has. Turns out he’s a dog lover, too. Truedeau adopted a precious 11-week-old, Portuguese Water Dog, named Kenzie. This sweet pup became a part of their family and now the Prime Minister’s two year old son has a fur-ever best friend!
Former Prime Minister of Canada Stephen Harper has the biggest passion for four-legged felines. While in office, Harper and his wife fostered over 87 cats. They are both also honorary chairs of the Ottawa Humane Society and run its annual fundraising gala. The Prime Minister even took to Facebook to help name a kitty in his care once and after 11,000 animal lover’s votes, they had a new furry friend named Stanley.
So does President of France Emmanuel Macron. “First Dog” Nemo was abandoned in his early years of life. The beautiful black pooch was rescued from PA animal shelter in Hermeray, just outside Paris. Nemo is the paw-fect example of ruffs to riches!
President Putin has a Passion for Puppies! Who knew! Russia’s President Vladimir Putin has a soft spot for animals. He is most famous for his chocolate Labrador Konni. This pooch lover also has two other furry friends named Yume and Buffy. At a point in his presidency, Putin was gifted with a tiger that was later released into the wild.
India’s current Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been a huge advocate for his precious fur-baby. Modi’s Golden Retriever is a new addition to the family. The affection he has for this pooch is undeniable. The Prime Minister even lets him eat off his plate occasionally. Modi and his pups’ love has us wagging our tails!

Current president Donald Trump recently started the process to adopt a Golden Doodle for his 10 year old son. Paton the Golden-doodle may be the newest “First Dog” in the White House.
Former President of the United States, Barack Obama, had his two gorgeous Portuguese Water Dogs while in office. Bo was the first precious girl to join the family. She was given as a paw-mise to his daughters. Of course, one dog isn’t enough! Soon after, they added sweet Sunny to their family.
Although President Calvin Coolidge was in office back in 1929, he was known to have so many different pets, it was joked that he ran a zoo. Coolidge has everything from six different breeds of dogs, cats, and birds. In his “zoo” there were even some exotic animals like a raccoon, wallaby and a black bear, but these animals found their way to more suitable homes.
