There’s no denying the beauty of a long-haired dog, but they required extra maintenance to stay gorgeous. Incorporating a few elements into their routine will ensure they stay healthy and will keep those shiny locks camera ready.
Bath time
Bath time is very necessary for long hair dogs as this helps to loosen up any dirt, dander and debris or loose hairs. This also allows you to feel their body to see if there’s anything you should be alert about, as it’s not always as easy to see if they had short hair and fluff covering everything!
De-shedding & Brushing
Deshedding and brushing is necessary as this removes the loose hair and also stimulates the skin to secrete oils that are essential to keeping the skin and coat healthy. This also removes dirt, dander, and debris – especially during the summer and spring time when there is a lot of blooming going on.
Trimming & Shaving
Trimming and shaving assists with not picking up and tracking in dirt, debris, and pollen into your house PLUS trapping it on to the skin to create any irritation. Overall it assists with cleanliness and the hygienic healthiness of your dog.
Supplements
I like to use different supplements for skin and coat care, one of the big ones I like to give to my dogs is coconut oil. This helps with their skin and coat and also aids in digestion so it really helps out in a lot of different areas.
Sweeping
Last but certainly not least is sweeping & lint rolling! A weekly sweeping routine has been great, and then on top of that I ended up getting an automatic vacuum to help me throughout the week to pick up any hair that starts to tumbleweed across my floor! Also, always having a lint roller ready to go as I’m walking out the door or in the car.
