The holidays may be a little different this year for everyone. Whether you’re spending it quarantined inside your home or with family, we have some fun DIY pet-safe activities to deck the halls this season.
Salt-Dough Paw-Print Ornament
Always wanted to include your furry friend on your christmas tree but have yet to find the perfect ornament? Try making an ornament of your friend, with your friend! Creating a Salt-Dough Paw-Print Ornament is simple, safe and mess-free. This pet-safe craft will keep you and your friend entertained while also adding some pawfect flare to your tree.
You will need:
1 cup of all-purpose flour
½ cup of water
parchment paper or aluminum foil
straw/pen for punching a hole
The first step to creating the pawfect ornament is to combine your flour, salt, and water into a mixing bowl and stir until it becomes nice and firm. You will knead the dough for 30 seconds, then cut them into individual circles (you can use a cup to cut the circle).
Once you’ve created your circles, press your dog’s paw into the salt dough and use a straw/pen to make a small hole on the top. Bake your dough at 200 degrees in the oven for 2-3 hours or until the dough is completely dry.
After your ornament has cooled off, you can give your ornament a festive flare, by decorating it with some chalk paint and glitter.
Christmas Cat Cake
If the only baking you’re doing this holiday season is to bake a yule log, why not throw in a little Christmas magic for your merry cat?
Your cat deserves a festive treat as much as Saint Nick. Try making a cat cake for your cat this holiday season. This cat cake is easy to make and will keep your furry feline friend happy and content once eaten.
You will need:
1 can of preferred wet cat food
2-4 tablespoons of coconut flour
splash of egg whites
Mix all of your ingredients together until you’ve created a cake batter like substance.
Once your batter is complete, you will then bake your batter 350 degrees until firm.
After your cat cake has cooled off, it’s time for your furry friend to enjoy.
Pet Advent Calendar
Keep the holiday spirit all month long by sharing one special treat everyday! This advent calendar can work for dogs and cats.
You will need:
small bags
fabric pens
stencils (optional)
toys/treats
push pins
bow
Start by labeling each bag for one day of the month. Stencils will ensure the numbers remain uniform. From there, fill each bag, varying the contents.
Pin each bag to the wall. We chose to pin them in the shape of a triangle to mimic a pine tree and added a bow to the top.
As a disclaimer, your pet will catch on to what the bags are pretty quickly, so it’s important the hanging stays out of reach.
Pet Stocking
Although baking can be fun, it’s not for everyone. We have this pawsome DIY stocking craft to do with your pet that’s so much fun to create for you and your furry friend.
You will need:
Stocking
Toxic-free childrens paint
Fabric markers
All you need to do is dip your pet’s paw into the paint and press it against your stocking. You can be creative and make a tree shape with your pet’s paw prints.
Once the paint is dried you can then draw lights on the tree to create a pawfect Christmas illusion as well as write your pet’s name so Santa knows who the good boy is.
The holidays are bound to be extra cheerful when you’re making treats, crafts, and memories with your furever friend. We hope you enjoy these pet-safe DIY’s and be sure to share your creations with us.
