It’s a question that comes up fairly often, “where is my donation going?”.
When making the decision to donate to a new organization, it can leave a feeling of uncertainty. Our Director of Shelter Engagement and her team spends their days verifying nonprofit animal rescues and she is sharing some simple tips that anyone can use.
Verify Charity Status
When donating to a new organization, it’s helpful to check their status to be sure they have taken the necessary steps to be certified by a government agency. Many sites can provide this information and they also provide some background into the nonprofit that can shed some light on their operations.
Look Over Website
An animal rescue’s website is a great resource for information that may not be available elsewhere. A visitor may be able to find details on how the rescue started, what their focus is, and the pets they are currently caring for.
Check Facebook
Social media is so wonderful because of its immediacy. So many animal rescues spend their time on facebook because of how easy it is to communicate with their community in the moment. Additionally, the reviews tab will show how their adopters, donors, and volunteers feel about the work being done.
Making an online donation can feel mystifying, but the results tangible. Because of the mission of animal rescues, families are unites and lives are saved. We hope you’ll use these steps to become the biggest advocate for an animal rescue today.
