At this point, we’re all too aware of the passing of the great Betty White. While so many eras of her life and career have been celebrated, none so much as her role in animal welfare.
She was quoted saying to CBS’ Katie Couric, she liked “animals more than people”. This sentiment was proven time and time again as she acted as patron and volunteer to many groups benefiting animals.
The Golden Girl supported organizations including the Animal Humane Foundation, Morris Animal Foundation, and the Los Angeles Zoo. Additionally, she was a known advocate in the “No Animals Were Harmed®” program protecting animals in film and television.
Other notable groups Betty White doted upon include Guide Dogs for the Blind, BraveHearts Therapeutic Riding and Educational Center, and her influence inspired the creation of groups like the Endangered Wolf Center. The lists could go on, but we’ll conclude with the gross understatement of- Betty White was an animal lover.
It would be impossible to count the number of lives her contributions transformed. To honor the legacy of this great woman, a viral campaign has started to donate $5 to the animal welfare group of your choice on her birthday, Jan 17th.
The Betty White Challenge occur in a little more than a week, though any groups have already seen a huge influx of donations since her passing, thus continuing the amazing impact of an amazing woman.
