Everything your pet needs to stay warm when temperatures drop
Winter is here, and while you’re bundling up in scarves, hats, and three layers of sweaters, your pets may have a little more trouble keeping themselves cozy. Fear not! Keeping your pet warm this winter doesn’t have to be a struggle. Here’s a fun guide to surviving the chill while also staying chill.
1. Sweaters aren’t just for humans
Yes, your dog may be more stylish than you, and yes, your cat might give you that look, but the right pet sweater can actually help them retain heat. When selecting your pet’s outfit, make sure it’s not so tight they can’t wiggle, but not too large so that the heated air inside escapes.
2. Snuggle spots
Just like you love your dedicated spot on the couch, a cozy bed in a draft-free corner can also be a dream for your pet. Upgrade it with our CUDDLY Navy & White Plaid Blanket, cushions, or even a heated pet mat if your budget allows.
3. Keep them moving. Yes, that means you, too!
Sure, curling up by the fire is tempting, but short play sessions and walks (even on chilly days!) help your pets generate body heat! It’s a good way to get you off the couch, too! Even if it’s a short walk around the block, some movement is better than nothing. A zooming dog or pouncing cat is basically a living space heater. Just remember: paws get cold, too! Dog booties or paw wax can save them from chilly sidewalks.
4. Hot snacks for the win
Nothing says winter comfort like warm food. As much as we love the CUDDLY Chicken Crispers (and I’m sure your pup agrees), heated meals or a cozy bowl of broth will help them warm up from the inside out.
5. Be mindful of the small, hairless, and elderly
Tiny, elderly, or short-haired pets are especially sensitive to the cold. Keep an eye on them and provide extra warmth with blankets, sweaters, or cuddles. Basically, spoil them a little more than usual. Winter is the perfect excuse for some extra senior snuggles!
6. Ice, ice… ouch!
Winter is beautiful, but icy sidewalks and snowy paws are no joke. Wipe their paws after walks and consider protective booties. For our furrier friends, like doodle breeds, ice tends to accumulate on their bellies, legs, and paws. This can tug painfully at their skin and quickly lead to dangerous matting. Both cats and dogs are also at risk for frostbite, so even a little extra protection can make a big difference in keeping them safe and comfortable during cold weather.
7. Extra love, always!
Sometimes the best warmth is the one you provide. Snuggles, belly rubs, and lap time are all free ways to keep your pet cozy! And they’re bound to love it, too.
Winter doesn’t have to mean shivering pets or guilt over leaving them inside. With a little planning, cozy gear, and extra love, your pet won’t just survive the chilly weather; they might just enjoy it!
